Giacomino Drago is the youngest of eight children from the small town of Galati Mamertino in Sicily’s Messina region where the family grew and made almost everything they ate; from pressing olives to make olive oil, to making fresh cheeses, to watching his father make wine from their own vineyards.

ICONS OF BEVERLY HILLS – GIACOMINO DRAGO

CEO GIACOMINO DRAGO GROUP OF RESTAURANTS

It’s hard to imagine Beverly Hills without II Pastaio, the celebrated Italian restaurant in the city’s center. For all of these years, one man has run the kitchen with an extraordinary eye for detail: Chef Giacomino Drago.

What is your favorite thing about Beverly Hills?

It’s like a small community where people know each other. It’s like one huge family, a great bond between the city, its people and the community.

How do you measure success?

For me, success is how you can be yourself, without being judged by others; having a very supportive family, that when you get home, it clears your mind and gives you motivation to do what you want to do.

Who is the most influential person in your life?

My mother-the mother of eight children. Very strong woman, hard-working and never complains. She always thinks about others first, a very selfless woman.

What is your passion?

Cooking and gardening. I always grow some plants in my backyard and cook something out of it. But my ultimate passion is being a good father to my children, a good husband to my wife, a good son to my parents and a good brother to my siblings.

What do you do to stay motivated?

To keep myself motivated, I always travel whenever there’s an opportunity to explore and discover new things and ideas about life and restaurant business.
