Description
Matrangela, literally “The mother of angels” in ancient times as pupa cu l’ali (doll with wings). The figurine is a female ancestral symbol. Manufacture dating back to the end of the 19th century, it was customary to give the statuette to women as a wish for fertility and abundance. Made entirely by hand, down to every detail, enamelled in pure white, with a small candle holder stuck between the wings. Usually depicted with various applications, from wheat, symbol of rebirth, flowers, representation of love, or a child. Even today, the Matrangela is one of the most typical and renowned objects of the craftsmanship of S. Stefano di Camastra. Matrangela height 7,87 inch.
